Example of adding a product to an IntelliMerchant catalog
This is an example of the form which you would fill out to put a product into your catalog.

Commodity based pricing
If the price of your product is directly related to an external cost such that when the external cost changes, your product's selling price should be adjusted then you stand to benefit from IntelliMerchant's commodity basis pricing feature.

Our commodity based pricing allows you to change the commodity basis price in one place and instantly adjust the price of all products whose selling price is dependent upon that commodity.  Of course IntelliMerchant keeps track of the changes made and product purchases at each commodity basis price so that returns are properly credited to the customer's account.

The base price of a commodity priced product is computed by multiplying the commodity's current price by the commodity factor entered for the product and then adding the product price entered for the product.  For example, you could price a gold watch as being $150 + 3.25 times the price of an ounce of gold by entering $150 in the product price field and 3.25 in the commodity factor field of the product.  Then, when the market price of gold changes, the price of the watch (and your other products tied to gold's price) will be instantly adjusted when you make the change to the gold commodity price.

The product's base price, including the commodity component, is then used in all discount and fee calculations.

Quantity Purchase Discounts
A quantity purchase discount is a discount given to a customer based upon the size of their order of this product.  A discount is calculated from a volume discount schedule and each product may have their own schedule or a schedule can be shared among multiple products.

The '^^ See Detail ^^' button is a convenience for reviewing the contents of the discount schedule.

IntelliMerchant has very powerful discount calculation abilities for your use.

Each discount schedule allows you to offer different product prices based upon the size of the order.  For example, ordering 10 units of the product may result in full product price, 11 to 20 units may result in a 90% product price, 21 to 50 units may result in a 85% product price, etc..  You may enter as many discount levels as you wish.

Each discount schedule allows you to specify the product price right in the schedule or, instead, you can put a percentage of full product price in the schedule.  A schedule made up of percentages is more easily shared among multiple products.   If the price is specified in the discount schedule, the commodity basis price component (if any) is added to the product's price.  If a price percentage rate is specified in the discount schedule, the commodity basis price is included in the price that the discount is applied against.

Another example of the incredibly flexible pricing power IntelliMerchant gives you is the ability to specify either 'single purchase price' or 'tiered price' quantity discount pricing.  With 'single purchase price' a single price is used for each unit of the product in the order; with the price determined by the number of units ordered.  With 'tiered price' pricing, multiple unit prices are used with each unit price determined by the number of units required to be ordered before the discount is given (e.g, the first three units can be purchased at 9.95 each, the next five units can be purchased at 8.80 each, the next 15 units can be purchased at 8.50 each, and remaining units can be purchased at 8.25 each).

Product S&H Fees
IntelliMerchant allows you to include Service and Handling Fees for each product (as well as for each order).  Product S&H fees are in addition to order S&H Fees.  The product S&H fees are included in the order's minimum and maximum S&H fee calculations.

The 'flat rate fee' is an amount which is charged regardless of the quantity of the product ordered.  The 'unit rate fee' is charged for each unit of the product ordered (e.g., a unit rate fee of $3 would result in a charge of $6 if 2 units of the product were ordered).  The 'S&H weight fee' is an amount charged for each unit weight of the product ordered.  This fee may become important to you if the weight of the product depends upon one of its features.  (See Product Attributes below).

All S&H fees are additive, whether entered for a product, based upon a product's attribute, or based upon the order.

Product Pictures
You may enter two pictures for each product.  The first (presumably small, thumbnail size picture) is displayed to the customer when the list of your products is displayed to the shopper as a result of answering their search request or when they have clicked on a category name in the shopper's menu.  The second (presumably larger, more detailed) picture is provided as a link from the first picture in order to provide the interested shopper a better view of your product.

The 'display picture' buttons are a convenience for viewing the actual picture which goes along with the picture name.

Product Categories
You create the category names which are shown to your customers.  Each of your products can be put in as many categories as you choose.

Product Attributess
A 'product' is an item offered for sale in the catalog.  It could be a ring, a bracelet, a package of golf balls, a dress, etc.  When the customer uses the catalog's internal search engine, the results displayed are individual products.

A 'product attribute' is a particular feature of the product for which the customer has a choice.  For example, a dress could come in eight sizes, three colors, and two patterns.  In this case, the dress has three attributes: size, color, and pattern.   When the customer orders the dress, IntelliMerchant would list each of the choices and require the customer to select one of each attribute.  Another example would be a silver chain necklace.  It could have two attributes, length and style (e.g., rope, twisted, box, etc.).  When the customer orders a necklace, they would be prompted for the length and style desired.

A 'product attribute' exists only to offer a choice to the customer.  Of course, you could create each variation of the choices offered to the customer as separate products, but that would be a tremendous amount of error-prone work!

A product's attributes are entered into the catalog on a separate page after the product has been added to the catalog.  IntelliMerchant allows you to specify price, commodity basis, S&H weight, and S&H fees that differ depending upon the selection of specific attribute choices made by the customer.
